Titans fall to Sea Captains 5 – 3

Vilho Liahtela scored a pair of goals, but it wasn’t enough as the Titans fell to the visiting Norwich Sea Captains 5 – 3 this afternoon. It was the first time in five games this season that Norwich beat the Red Buckets.

Liahtela scored his first goal of the game with 9:29 remaining in the opening period to give the Titans a 1 – 0 lead. Norwich evened the score with forty-six seconds left in the first period on Sean Loftus’ second goal of the year.

Norwich took their first lead of the game at 3:46 into the middle stanza when Aidan Bayne scored his second goal of the season to make it 2 – 1. The Titans then tied the contest a minute and a half later when Roland Ponechal scored his team high thirteenth goal of the season.

Norwich then scored three unanswered goals. They regained the lead for good when Loftus scored his second goal of the game at 9:03 into the second period. Seven minutes later the Sea Captains doubled their lead when Jack Kinahan hit the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season.

Brian Essing scored his first goal of the season to give Norwich a 5 – 2 lead. Liahtela scored with fifty-three seconds left in the game to close out the scoring and make it 5 – 3.

Colin Freitas stopped 31 of 36 shots in defeat while Norwich’s Brendan Pellerito turned aside 30 of 33 in the victory. Click here for the box score.

The Titans next game will be on Sunday when they travel to Long Beach to take on the Sharks at 10:30AM.
