Titans overcome 2 goal third period deficit to defeat Sea Captains 5 – 4

The visiting New Jersey Titans overcame a two-goal, third period deficit to defeat the Norwich Sea Captains today 5 – 4. The win ended the Titans two-game losing streak.

Noah Scherff opened the scoring for the Titans with 7:12 remaining in the first period. Kieren Olsen picked up the loose puck in the Sea Captains near side corner and passed it back to Scherff at the point. Scherff threw the puck on net that handcuffed former Titan and now current Sea Captain netminder Alex Tsymbalyuk and into the net for Scherff’s first goal of the season.

The Titans doubled their lead just 1:03 into the second period. Lucas Salas set up the play behind his own net and passed the puck up to Alex Blaszak at the near side faceoff circle. Blaszak carried the puck through center ice and into the offensive zone. As Blaszak gained the line, he passed the puck to Teito Ishigaki who took a wrist shot that beat Tsymbalyuk high glove side for his first goal of the season.

Norwich then scored four consecutive goals.

The Sea Captains Drew Schemmel got the home team on the board at 5:38 into the middle stanza. They then tied that game at two when Trevor Souza scored a powerplay goal with 9:36 left in the second period.

Norwich took their first lead of the game just 1:03 into the third period on Ethan Ranger’s sixth goal of the season. The Sea Captains doubled their lead at 6:53 in the period when Jack Kinahan scored his fourth goal of the season.

The Red Buckets closed their deficit by one fourteen seconds later when Cameron Burns scored his first goal of the season. Olson made a nice outlet pass from his own far side half wall up to Burns who skated in all alone into the offensive zone and he took a wrist shot that beat Tsymbalyuk high glove side.

The Titans tied that game with seven minutes remaining on a blast from Lucas Salas. With play behind the Norwich net, the puck went back to Salas at the far side point. Salas took a clapper that went through a maze out front and past Tsymbalyuk high glove side for his first goal of the season.

Ishigaki scored the game winning goal with 3:56 remaining in the game. Blaszak picked up the loose puck at the top of his own blueline and passed it up to Ishigaki. As Ishigaki gained the line on a two-on-one, he took a wrist shot from the far side faceoff dot that beat Tsymbalyuk long side for his second goal of the game.

Logan Hensley turned aside 33 of 37 shots in the win while Tsymbalyuk stopped 17 of 22. Click here for the box score.

The Titans will return home tomorrow night has they host the Baystate Bobcats at 8:30PM.
